NFC Identity Project
The NFC Identity Project, is an open source project that is creating a complete mobile authentication system for corporations and government agencies.  This system will be free for internal use.
Within two years there will be corporate and government deployments where all members of the organization will utilize NFC enabled mobile devices for the purpose of identity management.  These deployments will drive further consumer acceptance.   These systems will be microcosms of the full Trust Nexus system.
Most deployments within major corporations and government agencies (where there is no need for third party validation) will utilize their own repositories.  The Trust Nexus will offer a service for smaller organizations that prefer not to manage their own repositories.
The NFC Identity Project will provide both in person authentication at a physical check point and network authentication.  NFC technology will enable a bridge between the desktop and mobile platforms. All computers will soon have an NFC interface (either an internal card or a device plugged into a USB port). NFC enabled mobile devices will be able to exchange information with the desktop platform for a variety of purposes (authentication, single sign-on, financial transactions, marketing profiles, etc.).
One of the key benefits of this system for corporations and government agencies is the data structure exposed for authentication will contain no private data.  The data structure could just contain employee reference numbers and dual encrypted hash codes of digital credentials.  The system will be incredibly secure (even if hackers can reach the data structures they would have access to meaningless information).
There will be five components within the system:
Digital Wallet (for all major mobile operating systems)
  • Credential management system (create, retrieve, delete).
  • XML data structure for credentials (including bio-metric data).
  • Authentication processes within the digital wallet (encrypt transaction token with private key).
Infrastructure for The Trust Nexus Repository
  • The data structures will be incredibly simple.
  • The processes will be incredibly simple.
  • The amount of data to manage will be incredibly small.
Basic Credential Provisioning Component
  • Create a credential.
  • Store the dual encrypted hashcode in the repository.
  • Provision the credential to the digital wallet.
  • Extensible for easy integration with existing identity management systems.
Basic Authentication Component
  • User selects a credential.
  • User scans his/her smart phone against an NFC reader.
  • Credential is authenticated against the repository.
  • Extensible for easy integration with existing identity management systems.
Network/Internet Authentication Component
  • Plugin for major Internet browsers for exchanging information with the NFC reader
  • User scans his/her smart phone against an NFC reader connected to his/her computer's USB.
  • Credential is automatically selected.
  • Credential is authenticated.
